Lenten Lights Y is for Yield

Lady Bug

Discovering the gifts of my own yard is inspiring me this Lenten season to pay attention to what is close at hand. I captured the evening light in this photo mid-way through dinner on Tuesday.

As my soul waits the sun goes on rising and setting. Lady bugs dine on Bradford Pear Blossoms. Daffodils wilt and sag. Leaves open up to the Spring, and I yield myself to the dying and the birthing that is everywhere.

Hidden in each new life and old idea of this season is some raw and staggering light, and I chase after it. Maybe someday it will catch me.

  1. Upon reading this post this was my first thought:

“In these bodies we will live, in these bodies we will die
And where you invest your love, you invest your life…
    Awake my soul
For you were made to meet your maker
You were made to meet your maker.” — I Mumford 10:5a, 7c-e
